From Poverty to Empowerment: Our Story
Every journey begins somewhere, and ours started in a small Bronx apartment where Haizel McIntyre, a first-generation Dominican-American, learned the power and pain of money from real life - not textbooks. Growing up in poverty and a single-parent household, Haizel saw firsthand the stress, uncertainty, and sacrifice that come with not knowing where the next dollar will come. Those early experiences stayed with her, shaping her understanding that money is not just about math or habits, it is about feelings, family history, and survival. When Haizel found her way to social work, she brought her story with her. She kept listening to families quietly carrying burdens of shame or silence around money. Guiding young people in the Bronx, helping parents navigate tough choices, she realized the missing piece in financial education: no one was talking about the emotional and generational roots holding us back. Making Money Movers NYC exists because Haizel wanted to create what her own family never had - a safe, culturally relevant place to break cycles of poverty without judgment. Our work is personal for every member of our team because we are our clients. We lift each other up, heal from money wounds, and build futures rooted in community pride.

Founder & CEO
Haizel McIntyre leads with both empathy and expertise. As a first-generation Dominican-American raised in poverty in the Bronx, Haizel grew up navigating money challenges most textbooks do not cover. Her journey from those early struggles to becoming a Licensed Master Social Worker, Certified Financial Social Worker, and Certified Financial Education Instructor grounds every step of the Making Money Movers NYC vision. Inspired by her family's sacrifices and the strength found in her community, Haizel built an organization that stands for more than just financial skills. She makes it her mission to ensure families never feel alone or ashamed about their financial past, creating safe spaces where money stories are healed and new legacies are written together. Through every program, resource, and partnership, Haizel champions culturally relevant, trauma-informed education - empowering each person she meets to move with hope toward generational wealth.
